Electrical Engineering Design

PD Engineering Consultancy Ltd provides electrical engineering design as part of a fully integrated, multi-disciplinary offering. Working from Kensworth near Luton, we develop electrical designs in close coordination with mechanical, civil, structural and fire engineering so the result is efficient, compliant and buildable.

It suits main contractors, developers, architects and facilities managers who need power, lighting and life-safety design that works on site and holds up under programme pressure. Every design is produced with functionality, energy efficiency, maintainability and future adaptability in mind.

What's included

Power distribution

designed for the loads the building will actually carry, now and later.

Lighting design

coordinated to support usability, safety and architectural intent while meeting performance and compliance criteria.

Emergency and life-safety systems

developed so electrical and mechanical systems integrate seamlessly with life-safety requirements.

Containment coordination

routes agreed with the other disciplines so services fit where the drawings say they will.

Compliance with current regulations and standards

including fire strategies developed in line with relevant legislation and guidance.

How it works

We take projects from concept through detailed design and construction support.

  1. Brief — we talk through your project, the site, the programme and what you need to build from.
  2. Concept design — early load and layout thinking, so the big decisions are made before they get expensive.
  3. Coordination — electrical is developed alongside mechanical, civil, structural and fire engineering, with interfaces between disciplines managed as we go.
  4. Detailed design — drawings and documentation produced to work in fabrication, installation and handover.
  5. Construction support — we stay available while the work is on site to answer queries and keep the programme moving.

Why choose us

The main reason clients come to us for electrical design is that they do not have to stitch it together with everyone else's. Because we hold mechanical, structural and fire engineering in the same team, we manage the interfaces between disciplines ourselves. That reduces design risk, cuts clashes and streamlines delivery.

We also bring robust analytical capability, including FEA, frame analysis, lifting studies and thermal modelling, and demonstrated experience supporting Tier 1 contractors on technically complex construction projects. As one Project Manager at a Tier 1 contractor put it: "PD Engineering provided clear, buildable engineering solutions that integrated seamlessly with our wider project team. Their technical knowledge and practical approach helped reduce risk and keep the programme moving."

Frequently asked questions

What standards do you design to?

All electrical designs are produced in full compliance with current regulations and standards, and fire strategies are developed in accordance with relevant legislation and guidance. If your project or client has additional standards you need us to work to, tell us at the brief stage and we will confirm we can meet them.

What deliverables will I actually receive?

Drawings and documentation developed to work in fabrication, installation and handover — not just for planning. The exact package depends on the stage you appoint us at, so we agree the deliverables list with you before we start.

Do you coordinate with the mechanical and structural design?

Yes. That is the point of how we work. Electrical design is developed in close coordination with mechanical, civil, structural and fire engineering, so interfaces are managed by one team and clashes are picked up on the drawings rather than on site.

Have you worked with main contractors before?

Yes — we have demonstrated experience supporting Tier 1 contractors and technically complex construction projects, including balcony steelwork for Kier at Watford Riverwell. Ask us on a call and we will point you to the work closest to yours.

Who will I be dealing with?

You deal directly with our engineering specialists — the people doing the design, not a call handler. Ring 07511962098 or email paul@pdengcon.co.uk to start.

An example of coordinated design in practice

Kier — Watford Riverwell balconies. The balcony steelwork was complex and needed genuine multi-discipline coordination. We provided structural steel design, detailing and integration support. The outcome was a fully compliant, buildable solution that made fabrication and installation straightforward and kept delivery on programme.

That is the same coordinated approach we apply to electrical and building services work. You can see more of our work on the projects page.

How fees are worked out

Fees depend on the size of the project, the number of disciplines involved and the level of detail you need in the deliverables. The clearest way to get a figure is a short call: tell us the scope, the site and your programme dates, and we will set out what the work involves and how it would be priced before you commit to anything.
